Commemorative map of the 2nd Armored Division’s service in the Second World War. The map is titled “Hell on Wheels: War Against the Axis, 1942-1943-1944-1945" taking the division’s nickname given to it reportedly by General George S. Patton. The print uses three maps to detail the movements of the unit. The first of two smaller maps show its movement from the United States to North Africa, Sicily, England, France, and Germany. The second illustrates the division’s participation in Operation Torch and Husky - the invasions of North Africa and Sicily. The larger map charts its movements as it fought its way across Europe ending the war along the Elbe River in Germany.
The margins of the map list the cities liberated, German units encountered, and unit crests of the battalions that made up the division. The names of the division commanders and campaigns are listed in the center of the map. The history of the unit is included in an inset.
