A striking pictorial map of Massachusetts, designed and drawn by H.H. Brown in 1930 in commemoration of the 300-year anniversary of the founding of Boston. The map depicts the history of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts over three centuries. It features numerous vignettes with monuments, historic events and buildings, and illustrations and plans with detailed descriptions. Prominently inset are a ‘Boston During Three Centuries’ plan, ‘Battle of Bunker Hill’ map, chart of the coast of ‘Boston & Country Adjacent’, among many others. Centrally displayed in the top half of the layout is the coat of arms of the Great Seal of Massachusetts, with the state motto: “Ense petit placidam sub libertate quietem”. This map truly deserves the diligent exploration and loving attention of any student of the history and culture of New England, old and young.
