Manuscript map of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia and West Virginia from the Civil War Era. This remarkably detailed map was surveyed and drawn by Jedediah Hotchkiss for legendary Confederate General “Stonewall” Jackson prior to his Valley Campaign in 1862. Consequently, General Jackson’s army went on to win numerous battles in the region, against numerically superior Union forces, in what later became known as one of the most renowned and successful military campaigns of the American Civil War.
