Argonautica — a map depicting the mythical journey of Jason and the Argonauts and their quest for the Golden Fleece. The map shows Ancient Greece and the Mediterranean east of what is today Provence, France, up to and including the Black Sea. The layout contains inset maps of Europe, Thessaly and the Sea of Marmara and Bithynia region. The Golden Fleece is displayed centrally in the title cartouche, guarded by a dragon and two bulls. This beautiful decorative map first appeared in Parergon, Ortelius’ atlas of the ancient world, ca. 1601.
